Days after Youth Congress members in Kerala publicly slaughtered a calf to protest against beef ban, Kerala Police on Thursday arrested eight people who were involved in the incident.
The three accused Makutty, Josey Kandathil and K. Sharafuddin had slaughtered a calf last week. Former Indian Youth Congress (IYC) Kannur Parliament constituency committee Rijil Makutty has also been arrested in the case.

The Kannur Police earlier on Sunday registered a case against district president of Youth Congress Rigil Pookkutty and other party workers under Section 120 (A) of the Kerala Police Act, for slaughtering calf in public view. The case was filed on the basis of a video which went viral, reports ANI News.
Last Saturday, members of the Youth Congress slaughtered cattle in broad daylight and in public for its beef fest. Youth Congress leader Rijil Makkutty in the video said that it was a protest against government’s decision on cattle sale restrictions.

The video further showed members shouting slogans like ‘Youth Congress Zindabad’ and ‘Narendra Modi you can’t ban beef’ before going ahead with slashing the cattle’s neck with a butcher’s knife.
The incident sparked a nationwide uproar and even Congress Vice-President Rahul Gandhi termed it ‘thoughtless and barbaric’. Three Youth Congress members were later suspended over the incident.
