Shobhaa De’s back at it again. The last time she was in the news, it was for some mindless drivel that she calls an opinion that she posted on Twitter. Specifically, this mindless drivel about the Indian Olympic attempt. Now, in light of the Indian Women’s Cricket Team almost winning the World Cup and the subsequent exposure they’ve received, she had this to say.
Oh Lord! Please protect our amazing women cricketers from crass commercialisation and greed that has ruined most of our Boys in Blue.

As usual, and for obvious reasons, people had some choice words to communicate to her. The twitterati took her to school regarding this senseless statement. Making money from the sport isn’t really wrong, and for a team that’s just hit the spotlight, it’s pretty well-deserved. Basically, the people online really made their displeasure felt –
Why should the women not benefit from their stardom?

Translation: Men can define their own success, but not women. No, we can’t have women be both good at cricket and rich.

Beg to differ Mam, why should boys have all the fun ? Irrespective, the girl gang should also enjoy the kick backs ..

Not fair At all madam….. Why should women not benefit from deals ? Our men cricketers have done very well. Can you pls mention specifics ?

It cannot get more stupid and selfish than this. Why would u want to stop them from earning money? https://t.co/zRUVSdsSzz

And why is that so. More money will attract more girls to the sport. Keep your small thinking to yourself.

If she had a fair point to make, it didn’t exactly come through too well.
