PV Sindhu defeats Japan’s Nozomi Okuhara in the World Badminton Championships to claim maiden gold.
By beating Nozomi 21-7, 21-7, PV Sindhu has created history by becoming the first Indian to win a World Championships gold.
The 24-year-old badminton player dedicated her medal to her mother and thanked her coach, Pullela Gopichand and her support staff.
I dedicate this medal to my mother. It’s her birthday today.
In Hyderabad, her family is celebrating Sindhu’s historic win.

The match was almost one-sided and the final lasted for 38 minutes.
