Chin dimples, cleft chin or butt chin, there are various different names for this particular characteristic of the face that has thrown people into countless arguments over how sexy it is. Regardless of the merit of attraction, one has to agree that a dimple on the chin does offer personality.
There’s a reason why some people develop cleft chins.
You’ve seen it on many attractive people whose chin dimples are the talk of town.
Gangsters have got it.
You’ve seen that Superman has it.
Hell, even Batman’s been rocking it.
But then, there are arguments over whether it’s ugly too. And, most audiences seem split.
In any case, there is an interesting reason how some people develop the dimple and some don’t.
While, most people are born with the y-shaped pit on their chin, others develop it over time. The chin dimple happens to be one of the Mendelian traits in humans.
The dimple happens to be a result of asymmetry in the jaw line.
For those born with it, the jaw develops as two separate halves on a foetus and when there is slight deviation in alignment during the fusing of the two halves it results in cleft chin. While, those who develop it usually have it because one half of the jaw grows larger or longer than the other, causing the dimple at the chin where the two halves fuse.
