The tea is piping hot, especially since Donatella Versace just stepped away from her creative director throne at the iconic brand her brother Gianni founded. Despite Versace serving financial flops lately, Prada is convinced they can revive the brand’s legendary status.

In what might be fashion’s most unexpected, Prada has just splashed $1.375 billion to snatch Versace from Capri Holdings. This Italian power merger is giving main character energy to the luxury world dominated by French giants like LVMH.

“We aim to continue Versace’s legacy celebrating and re-interpreting its bold and timeless aesthetic,” said Prada Chairman Patrizio Bertelli, giving big “we can fix them” energy. Bertelli (husband to design queen Miuccia Prada) promises to give Versace the glow-up it deserves.

Donatella’s response? Totally wholesome. “Gianni and I have always had a huge admiration for Miuccia, Patrizio and their family,” she gushed, basically saying “no notes” on the handover to Italian fashion royalty.

The price tag is actually a major discount from the $2.15 billion Capri (formerly known as Michael Kors) coughed up in 2018. Trump’s tariff drama has everyone in their flop era, which probably helped Prada score this bargain.

Capri’s CEO John Idol is spinning the sale as a strategic win for their Michael Kors and Jimmy Choo brands, but their stocks said “I don’t think” and dropped 3% faster than last season’s trends.

Prada CEO Andrea Guerra kept it 100: “Versace has huge potential. The journey will be long and will require disciplined execution and patience.” Translation: this relationship needs work, but the vibes could be immaculate.

This marks Prada’s first major shopping spree since their “it’s giving regret” acquisitions of Helmut Lang and Jil Sander in the late ’90s. But with Prada’s Miu Miu currently eating and leaving no crumbs, they’re feeling confident about this new era.

With Versace’s baroque prints and Medusa head serving main character energy alongside Prada’s clean girl aesthetic, this fashion power couple might just be the collab we never knew we needed. We’re all just living in their Roman Empire!
