As Delhiites continue to breathe in air quality that keeps oscillating between ‘severe’ to ’emergency’ category, there continues to be little action from the government.
And now, even Hollywood actor Leonardo DiCaprio has reposted a post from Extinction Rebellion, about Delhi’s air pollution crisis.
Leonardo DiCaprio, who has always been vocal about climate change and its after-effects, shared photos from the protest that Delhi citizens had organized. He also listed the actions that were triggered by the protests, along with the far-reaching consequences of air pollution.
According to the World Health Organisation, air pollution in India is estimated to kill about 1.5 million people every year; these statistics make air pollution the fifth-largest killer in India.
Leonardo has often brought attention to the climate crisis across the globe, including India. In the past, he even shared photos to bring attention to Chennai’s water crisis.
Climate change is a very real and disturbing reality that is affecting not just the current generation, but also generations to come and it’s crucial that government authorities take strict measures.
