Hip-hop, the kind of music most parents disregard as pre-pubescent drivel, may have a lot of material based solely on the accumulation of ‘bling and pussy’, but if we look beyond the shit that climbs out at us straight off the Billboard charts, it’s clear that a lot of rap artists are self-aware, independent, balls-to-the-wall guys who just want to get their point across. The brilliance of rap may be masked behind a thick wall of steez, but there’s brilliance there nonetheless.
