Pete Thorpe , a photographer from Bristol, has been following an amazing tradition for the last twenty years. He has been dressing up his pet dog in different costumes, taking portraits of them and using them as Christmas cards which he send out to friends, family and clients.

Unlike most photographers, Thorpe shies away from digital trickery and instead uses real props to design the set-up for the portraits. Since it’s a project that has been going on for about 20 years now, the models have changed over the years. Earlier, it was his dog Paddy and now, it’s Raggle. This is Raggle’s last year in these Christmas cards because she is old and is retiring from the modelling business.

Here are some of the best photos over the years.

Camel in 2006

Donkey in 2007

Turkey in 2009

Sheep in 2010

Penguin in 2011

Ebenezer Scrooge AKA Bah, Humbug in 2012

And here are a few behind the scene shots to show how intricate the set-up is.
