Going to the local markets and purchasing fresh fruits and vegetables is a daily chore for many of us. But can you even imagine this freshness coming out of the ‘gutters’?
Yes, there’s a video that has gone viral on social media showing hawkers in Vakola area of Santacruz, Mumbai, storing their groceries in open gutters.

Assistant commissioner Alka Sasane told TOI,
From the past four months, we have been taking action against the hawkers of that particular area. Our vehicles and staff are present there all the times to prevent the hawkers from conducting business there. Legal action will be taken by filing first information reports (FIRs) against them, if required.
Although the BMC officials have alleged that the hawkers have done this intentionally to defame the civic body over its “carelessness”, the dirty act has surely shattered the trust we’ve been placing in the sabjiwale bhaiyyas all through this time.
The unhygienic practice needs to be investigated and stopped.
