India lost their second match of the Asia Cup against hosts UAE today. However, the result from the other game in the group means India is currently second in the group.
India started the match brightly, creating two clear chances. Sandesh Jhingan missed the target with a free header, while Sunil Chhetri’s goal bound shot was saved by the keeper.
UAE, however scored against the run of play, with their first shot on target just before half time, going into the break with the lead.
India brought on Jeje for Halicharan Narzary and started the second half in the same vein, with Udanta hitting the crossbar after a quick one-two with Sunil Chhetri.
With India pushing ahead for a goal, UAE scored a second with a long ball in behind the defense. India hit the post in the dying moments of the game, but in the end it wasn’t enough.
Thailand beat Bahrain in the other game in the group, leaving India in second, ahead of Thailand on goal difference.
India can qualify for the round of 16 if they beat Bahrain in their last group game on 14th January.
