It’s true, ladies. Women who lose their partner to a love-rival are better off in the long term, according to a study by researchers at Binghamton University and University College London.

According to The Guardian, the study highlighted how even though being cheated on might initially be devastating, it eventually leaves the victim with a ‘higher mating intelligence’ which helps her to choose a more faithful partner in the future.

‘Mating intelligence’ is a term that scientists use to describe a woman’s ability to identify ‘high mate value’ with improved accuracy, resulting in more fruitful future relationships.

Most researches examining infidelity in the past have focused primarily on the short-term consequences. But this particular study delved deeper into long-term impact such a development in a relationship can have on the woman being cheated on.

It conversely revealed that the ‘other woman’ ends up with a partner who has a demonstrated history of deception and likely infidelity – setting herself up for a doomed relationship to begin with.

One thing the research forgot to examine, though, was the effects of infidelity on men.

Do they develop a spidey sense for all the cheaters out there too? Maybe, maybe not, and just maybe we should be taking studies like this with a pinch of salt.

‘Cause in matters of the heart, let’s be honest, there’s only so much ‘mating intelligence’ could do.

At the end of the day, we’re all as likely to fall for people for any number of reasons and there really is never a guarantee they’ll stay true to us. All we can do is keep the faith.
