There’s something truly special about long distance two-wheeler trips. Some say it’s the excitement of exploring new roads. Some say it’s the idea of riding into the sunset. Some say… it’s a bit of both. Whatever it may be, but one thing’s for sure that planning a trip like this is not really easy. So, before you head out in a hurry here’s a 101-style, checklist for you:

1. First things first, look for the right time to plan your trip.

You wouldn’t want to travel to Rajasthan in the scorching summer heat or to Ladakh in the crazy winters!

2. Carry a portable charger to keep your phone charged or choose a ride that has an inbuilt USB mobile charging unit.

Whenever you’re going for a road trip, it is very important to have your phone on full battery. Not only would you need it for navigation, but also wherever you stop you can take beautiful pictures as well. While a portable charger should be on top of your list, there nothing like it if your ride has an inbuilt charging point like the new TVS Wego.

3. Make sure your two-wheeler has a body balance feature.

You will encounter many national highways, district roads and possibly even rural roads during your journey. And while riding them, you never know when a pothole or bump will sneak up on you. A two-wheeler with body balance will not only help you deal with them in a safe manner but also make your ride a more pleasant experience.

4. Make sure pack the right gear!

This includes leather jackets, gloves, knee pads, elbow pads, and boots. It also pays if you throw in some cool rugged t-shirts as well.

5. Always ride at a constant speed.

Riding your two-wheeler at a constant speed rather than sudden acceleration or deceleration will not only ensure good mileage for your vehicle, it will also reduce the chances of you getting those terrible back aches.

6. Don’t take too many breaks. Instead, take fewer, but longer breaks.

If you take too many breaks while you are road-tripping, you will increase the time taken to reach your destination. Rather than taking a lot of small breaks, ride for at least 2-3 hours and then take a good 15-20 minute break to recuperate.

7. Always carry your expensive items like cameras and mobile phones in an airtight zip pouch.

Yes, you might be carrying a waterproof backpack, but there is no harm in being extra careful and putting your DSLR or your swanky mobile phone in an airtight zip pouch. This will ensure that your electronics remain dry and in working condition, even when you are riding in the rain.

8. Whenever possible, use tubeless tyres for your travel.

Not only are tubeless tyres more durable than normal tyres, in case of punctures, these tyres last longer and give you a considerable amount of ride time before needing a repair shop.
