Nobody remembers what Barack Obama was wearing the day he was sworn in as the president of the United States of America, except a look of solemn seriousness, and later, a big smile.
The man never stood out for his fashion. He stuck to simplicity through the years. Even though his wife, the ever-graceful former First Lady of an era bygone, Michelle Obama, never failed to set new style benchmarks at fancy events such as White House dinners and charity gala nights.
Now, you don’t look like a million bucks without some help from designers and a variety of high-profile stylists. But Obama begged to differ. From his loose jeans to pastel sweaters, his trademark look has been understated and comfortable.
But his one golden rule to get ready for a lavish evening was smart and quick: Wear The Same Damn Suit.
He’s a serial outfit repeater! Not a care in the world! Screw the limelight! And here we are millennials, worried that someone will see a party dress twice.
All this time, the secret was surely an overused but still funny private joke between the power couple. Maybe while Michelle adjusted his bow tie and her husband acted all cool and dapper? Ha. Ha.
Even older daughter, Malia, might have been on the family secret. At every function, she could’ve been totally exasperated like, “Dad! Again?!?”
Who knows, he might have told Justin Trudeau. He’s a likeable guy. They must’ve had a good laugh at how they fool everyone.
From 2009 to 2017, Barack Obama put on the same jacket, pants and bow tie, and not one person suspected a thing, not even overbearing fashion critics who literally miss nothing. Turns out, he’s quite the sneaky dresser. Year after year, he stood on that red carpet to welcome the most important people of the world, so pleased with himself.
Honestly, men have it so easy at times. As far as formals are concerned, they can anyway look exactly the same without going through the inch-by-inch scanner. But the same can’t be said about women. Duh.
Ask Michelle. She recently busted her husband’s long-lasting trick/high-confidentiality pact. Well, he’s off the chair now, so why not?
“This is the unfair thing – no matter what we do, he puts on that same tux,” Michelle explained.
“Now, people take pictures of the shoes I wear, the bracelets, the necklace… They didn’t comment that for eight years he wore the same tux, same shoes.”
No guesses as to who took more time to leave the dressing room. Michelle more than covered up for him though.
“And he was proud of it too. He’s like, ‘Mmm, I’m ready. I’m ready in 10 minutes. How long did it take you?’ I’m like, ‘Get out of here,’” Mrs. Obama said.
We applaud Mr Obama for his ingenious idea. And many other influential men will agree with him. Ask Mark Zuckerberg. He wears the same t-shirts to work everyday. You literally can’t tell one from another. Smart people know better than to waste precious minutes on choosing clothes, especially if you’re a world leader or something.
Are you listening, Donald Trump? Or still stuck on those god-awful wigs and nightmarish ties?
As for Mr Obama, he’s quite the stud anyhow, isn’t he? Now that he’s finally rid of those fitted, bespoke suits, he can throw on whatever the hell he wants to, without cameras flashing in his face. Be it cool daddy or swagger husband.
Remember what he said when his term came to an end?
“I can wear my mom jeans in peace. I hate these tight jeans.”
Stay the same, Mr. Obama. There’s only one you.
