Nitin, a MNREGA labourer’s son from Dholpur district in Rajasthan, has cleared the IIT-JEE, one of the toughest engineering entrance exams in the world.
Banwari Lal Jaatav, a Dalit, came to know about it when the village pradhan showed up at his place of work near Pipaheri in Dholpur to inform him about his eldest son cracking the IIT exam, says a report in The Times of India.
“Iski mehnat parivar ki kismat badal degi (His hard work will change the family’s destiny),” Banwari told TOI.
Nitin, who had studied at Jawahar Navodhaya Vidhyalaya and managed his IIT coaching using scholarship, has scored an all-India ranking of 499 under the SC category.
Nitin has always been good at studies and scored 85% in class X and 84% in Class XII. He also helped his father with his work.
“My father does it. I can also do it. I have no hesitation in saying that my father is a labour who has given me enough to get proper education.”
Bansari has three sons and a daughter and works hard to ensure their education. The family is excited about Nitin’s accomplishment but is equally worried about managing his IIT fee.
“We don’t need to pay as much as general category candidates would, but we still need money,” Nitin, who wants to pursue electrical engineering from IIT Kharagpur, told TOI.
Out of 1,55,948 candidates who had registered for the 2016 JEE (advanced), 1,47,678 appeared for the exam and 36,566 qualified.
