After refurbishing Mumbai’s iconic kaali-peeli taxis, ‘Taxi Fabric’ is now looking to penetrate the streets of Delhi.

Taxi Fabric is a crowd-funding initiative which looks to give designers a platform to channel their talent and bring contemporary design to the interiors of taxis and autos.

They opened their account in the national capital recently after one of their designers, Nasheet Shadani, who works for a firm named Wieden + Kennedy Delhi, redesigned the interiors of an auto-rickshaw giving it a psychedelic look.

Taxi Fabric rues that very little thought is given to the fabric used on the seats of taxis and the designs that cover them are often dull and forgettable.

The initiative was bolstered by a successful kickstarter campaign through crowdfunding that raised around $17,200 (approximately Rs 11.5 Lakh).

The project started in April 2015 and, so far, 30 Taxis and 5 Rickshaws have undergone a makeover with them, which includes one rickshaw in Delhi.

According to Taxi Fabric, each taxi is fitted with an identity label which tells anyone who rides in the taxi, the designer behind the Taxi Fabric, the story of the design and also how to get in contact with them for collaborations or commissions.
