There has been a 40% rise in farmer suicides in Maharashtra alone, and over 200 farmers have killed themselves in the last three months in Marathwada. Unseasonal rains and fall in prices of crops have led to disastrous outcomes for farmers in India. There is massive discontent around rural portions of the country towards the current government.
How does the government react? Home Minister Rajnath Singh tweets. Unfortunately for him, farmers don’t read tweets, they work.
The states should immediately address the crisis facing the farmers. I appeal to farmers in distress not to commit suicide. We are with you.
