One of the key accused in 2002 Godhra train burning case, Imran Batuk, has been arrrested by Ahmedabad Crime Branch on Wednesday.

Batuk was arrested from Malegaon where he was into illegal sand mining, reports ANI.

Earlier on May 18, the Gujarat Anti-Terrorist Squad had arrested Farooq Bhana, another accused in the Godhra incident which led to communal riots in the state.

Last year, Kasam Ibrahim Bhamedi was also arrested in connection with this case. Bhamedi was accused of  pelting stones and breaking the window panes of the S6 coach of Sabarmati Express before it was set on fire in 2002.

On February 27, 2002, a mob had vandalised Sabarmati Express and had set it on fire in Gujarat. About 60 passengers were killed in the incident.

The aftermath of the incident in the form of riots had more devastating effect in the state which led to the killing of 1,000 people.
