Vijay Goel may have gone to Rio to extend support to the athletes as they make headlines. But so far, he’s managed to make headlines of himself thanks to the alleged bad behaviour by his entourage.
He’s again in the news thanks to his poor skills on Twitter. He’d earlier misspelt gymnast Dipa Karmakar’s name and on Monday, made another gaffe when he tweeted his best wishes to sprinter Srabani Nanda. The only problem? The picture used was of fellow sprinter Dutee Chand:
Sports Minister @VijayGoelBJP wished Srabani good luck by tweeting out @DuteeChand‘s photo.https://t.co/KBKzBqzeaT pic.twitter.com/HhlOGtxhUI

Not surprisingly the tweet was quickly deleted and there was no acknowledgement or apology for the error.
But Twitterati as usual weren’t so forgiving:
Oh, now I understand why many Indians landed at 4th spot in Rio. Typo champion Vijay Goel wished all of them – may the fourth be with you.

Dear @PMOIndia your disgraceful sports minister @VijayGoelBJP can’t recognise Dutee Chand! Good job. Take a selfie! https://t.co/5dfRoe4XtR
