Twitter was up in arms on Monday over Shashi Tharoor comparing JNUSU President Kanhaiya Kumar to Bhagat Singh.
On Sunday night, the Congress MP from Thiruvananthapuram gave a speech at Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) campus on the subject of nationalism.
When he was speaking on the issue of sedition and how some of the biggest freedom fighters were victims of the sedition law, he had said that “Bhagat Singh was the Kanhaiya Kumar of his time.”
This video immediately viral and invited a lot of ire and criticism from the BJP. Actor and BJP MP Paresh Rawal slammed Tharoor for his remarks and said that ‘Tharoor’s IQ is lower than his shoe size.’
At the cost of repeating myself I must say @shashiTharoor IQ is lower than his shoe size ! https://t.co/wtdSc5SlJp

Twitteratti were outraged over Tharoor’s statement with ‘Bhagat Singh’ becoming one of the top trends on Twitter.
Tharoor was quick to issue a clarification as he highlighted how the media is twisting his statement and taking it out of context.
My JNU speech: https://t.co/i78785FTTf Typical that media focus isn’t on substance but on a throwaway remark in response2an audience comment
