In what could come as a good news for all BSNL subscribers, soon unlimited local and national voice calls to any network will cost Rs 149 a month.

On January 1, the new monthly tariff plan is expected to be introduced. The announcement is likely to give a tough competition to Reliance Jio which recently rolled out plans like unlimited voice calls at Rs 149, 300 MB data and 100 local and national SMS for a 28-day period, reports Economic Times.

Speaking to the newspaper, BSNL chairman Anupam Shrivastava said, “We are working on a plan to allow unlimited voice calls to mobile subscribers at any network across India at Rs 149 a month.”

He said that the plan would include 300 MB of data and will also aim to reduce interconnection usage charge (IUC) impact.

Shrivastava informed that they are planning to expand their customer base apart from retaining told customers as a part of their strategy to give a tough competition not only to Jio’s tactical pricing but also to competitive tariffs by Bharti Airtel, Vodafone India and Idea Cellular.

On September 5, Reliance Industries Chairman Mukesh Ambani’s Jio had unveiled free voice calls and free data under its ‘Welcome Offer’ for the first three months. Later, the offer was extended till March 31, 2017.
