Heath Ledger’s Joker in The Dark Knight is still hailed as one of the best performances the cinematic world has seen. The man was a legend in his field, and his tragic passing on Jan 22, 2008 came as a shock to fans across the globe.
And according to News.com.au, more than 8 years after that fateful day, Heath’s father Kim Ledger – a 66-year-old businessman – has revealed to the world what his last words were.
He revealed to Daily Mail Australia that the last conversation he had with family was with his sister Kate and they were discussing responsible use of his medication. She warned him against mixing drugs he knew nothing about.
“He said, ‘Katie, Katie, I’ll be fine!’ Well, that’s a cavalier boy’s answer. It just put his whole system to sleep I guess.”
The actor, who was found by his housekeeper in his New York home, died at the age of 28 from a combination of several different prescription drugs.
When his father spoke of the tragedy, he remarked:
“It was totally his fault. It was no one else’s – he reached for them. He put them in his system. You can’t blame anyone else in that situation. That’s hard to accept because I loved him so much and was so proud of him.”
So were his fans, Kim. We all love and miss Ledger. And the world is a poorer place without him. R.I.P.
