A government building on the outskirts of Srinagar, where an encounter took place earlier this year, caught fire after terrorists allegedly attacked it on Monday morning.

An army official said soon after the fire, a gunshot was heard from within the premises of JKEDI.

Fire tenders have been rushed to the spot, but they are not being allowed to enter the building due to security reasons, the official said.

An NDTV report says that an firefight between terrorists and security forces is underway. The report adds that around two-three militants are suspected to be holed up in the building.

An India Today report says that an Army jawan has been injured in the firing and additional forces are being called in. Further details awaited.

In February this year, an encounter between militants and security forces took place at the same building which lasted for more than 48 hours.
