Fast-walking a distance of 50 kms in a hot weather is daunting. But French race walker, Yohann Diniz, had a nightmare of a race after he started bleeding, defecated, and collapsed by the side of the track. But in the end, he finished eighth despite all of this.
According to a Business Insider report, Diniz suffered severe gastrointestinal issue and used a sponge to soak up leaking faecal matter during the race at the ongoing Rio Olympics. He was even bleeding at one point and collapsed by the side of the track.
However, Diniz somehow managed to get up and make it to the finish line. Video footage and photographs from the event show a dark liquid trickling down his pants.
It is a very common phenomenon among long-distance runners who experience abdominal cramping and diarrhoea. There is a term for this breakdown called as “Runner’s Trots.” However, the cause of diarrhoea is not clear.
