Bansal allegedly hanged himself along with his son at their residence with a suicide note allegedly claiming “harassment” by CBI, barely two months after his wife and daughter ended their lives following his arrest in the alleged corruption case. 

Bansal had reportedly visited CBI headquarters on Tuesday to submit some papers but he hadn’t been summoned by the agency’s investigation team which is probing allegations of corruption against him. 

CBI sources told PTI that Bansal did visit the agency headquarters on Tuesday to furnish some document but he was neither summoned formally or called informally to visit. 

The maid, Rachna (16), told the police she had overheard Bansal telling “someone” that Yogesh had been called for questioning on Wednesday. 

“Bansal told her that when she comes to work the next morning, the door will remain open, since they would sleep late as they had to go for CBI questioning,” police said.

Rachna told NDTV that the Bansals were very private about their lives and rarely had visitors. 

“Yogesh would say wherever he went, people would point and say he is BK Bansal’s son and he would feel bad. I told them to move out, but he said that the CBI told him ‘wherever you hide, we will find you’,” she said.

However, a CBI spokesperson did not address any of this in his official statement. 

“We are deeply saddened to know the unfortunate demise of B K Bansal and his son today. The matter is being looked into by the local police,” CBI spokesperson R K Gaur said. 

He said Bansal, then DG in Union Ministry of Corporate Affairs, was an accused in a bribery case in which he was arrested on July 16, 2016. Gaur said Bansal was granted interim bail from July 20, 2016 to August 21, 2016 and thereafter he was granted regular bail on August 30, 2016. 

“The case is under investigation. Further, the son of B K Bansal was neither an accused nor was he summoned by the CBI in the ongoing bribery investigation,” Gaur said. 

Meanwhile, sources told PTI that Bansal had allegedly claimed harassment by a CBI DIG and three other officers. However, the agency said it has not received any complaint or reference in this regard from the Delhi Police. It said the copy of the suicide note has also not been received by the agency. 

“Bansal and his son left behind photocopies of two separate suicide notes that were found in the rooms where they hanged themselves,” police added. 

Bansal’s wife and daughter, in separate suicide notes, had stated that the “CBI raid” caused “great humiliation” and they did not want to live after that. They had, however, held nobody responsible for their death. 

CBI had carried out searches at eight locations in connection with the case during which the agency had claimed to have made cash recoveries.
