Calling it a sinful activity,  Bareilly-based Dargah-e-Ala Hazrat has issued a fatwa against Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC), a popular US-based restaurant chain, urging Muslims to refrain from eating there.

According to senior mufti Salim Noori, the chicken prepared at the outlet is not ‘halaal’ and is hence un-Islamic, reports Hindustan Times

The cleric alleged that the chicken served at these outlets are not processed in a way that is acceptable in Islam. Therefore, they must be completely rejected.

Calling KFC food Unislamic, he told Hindustan Times

“Halal is not only about killing the animal it is also about the way its meat is processed and cooked. The KFC stores do not process or cook the meat in an Islamic way which makes it haram.”

He also claimed that halal certificates hung at these outlets lose credibility if the shop owners are unable to divulge details on the meat-making process.

Reportedly, a verbal fatwa was issued after people consulted the mufti on the consumption of meat at KFC.

Previously, Noori had issued a fatwa against the popular augmented reality game, Pokemon Go, calling it “haraam”.
