What is a worse show of poor general knowledge than Maria Sharapova not knowing who Sachin Tendulkar was?
It’s AR Rahman being equally clueless about Pelé. He had to Google to know about the world’s greatest footballer.
But the fact that celebrities, who have otherwise made quite a mark in the field of their interest, know little about basic information about the rest of the world is hardly surprising as has been evident on several occasions.
We bring you five other instances when celebs exposed themselves on their horrible general knowledge:
- Of course, Alia Bhatt
She has to top this list. She actually became something of a poster girl for celebs-are-so-bad-at-GK. During Karan Johar’s talk show ‘Koffee with Karan’, she very confidently said that ‘Prithviraj Chavan’ was the President of India! In her next appearance, she threw a blank when asked the full form of BJP!
- Kareena Kapoor
While the entire country was celebrating India’s huge achievement of launching satellite Mangalyaan into the Mars orbit, Kareena Kapoor couldn’t care less. She was left red-faced when asked thoughts about this development. She first asked the question to be repeated and then thought aloud she needed a translator.
- Sania Mirza
World number 1 in women’s doubles, Sania Mirza might be acing it in Tennis but couldn’t answer an extremely simple question of chemistry. While at the show KBC Telugu hosted by Akkineni Nagarjuna, she was asked Sodium Chloride is the chemical name of which substance. Clueless, she made the first blunder by calling it a Physics problem, and then the second – shepicked water over salt!
- Sonam Kapoor
She claims to be an avid reader, but when asked to identify the speaker of the quote “An eye for an eye makes the whole world blind” she responded it’s Robert De Niro. We hope you know the correct answer – it’s Mahatma Gandhi. On another occasion, she wondered when is Independence day celebrated!
- Varun Dhawan
This is not just to gender-balance the list, but in the Karan Johar show that made Alia Bhatt a favourite for memes, Varun Dhawan fared as bad. When asked the same question posed to Alia – who the Indian president is – Varun replied it was Manmohan Singh.
Clearly, AR Rahman is not the only one!
