Srinagar: Ghalib Guru, son of Parliament attack convict Mohammad Afzal Guru who was hanged three years back, scored an impressive 95 per cent marks in the 10th standard examinations conducted by the Jammu and Kashmir Board of School Examination.
Ghalib secured 474 marks out of 500, according to the results declared today. He has secured ‘A1’ grade in all five subjects and is the 19th rank in the state.
Afzal Guru was hanged to death on February 9 in 2013 following his conviction in the 2001 Parliament attack case.
His mother told Greater Kashmir that it had been tough for the boy to deal with the hanging of his father and he wanted to be a “scholar like his father”.
He had studied with his cousins in Baramulla and his uncle’s hoping his nephew will become a doctor in the future.
Ghalib’s performance in the examinations became a talking point on the social media. While separatists lauded the boy “for excelling despite hardships”, he’s also been getting a lot of praise from across the country.

Let him be Ghalib Guru and make an independent life for himself, unaffected by his father’s history. https://t.co/YC7ENZTwqT
