From being a music composer to being a singer, an actor and a reality show judge, Himesh Reshammiya has come a long way in Bollywood. But there’s a lot more to the man that most of us know. Before coming into the limelight with Tere Naam and Aashiq Banaya Aapne, Himesh also composed music for numerous hit films of the 1990s. Did you know that he was one of the music directors in the Salman-Kajol starrer Pyaar Kiya Toh Darna Kya?
Himesh has been giving us some great music since the 90s and we didn’t even know about it! Have a look at some of his melodies before he went all Jhalak Dikhlaa Ja on us!
1. Pyaar Kiya Toh Darna Kya
Though, O O Jaane Jaana just smashed all chart buster records, Odh Li Chunariya and Tum Par Hum Hain Atke Yaara were equally catchy. Himesh has often referred to Salman Khan being his Godfather. Looks like it all started from here.
Check out Odh Li Chunariya here.
2. Hello Brother
This movie saw both Salman and Arbaaz on-screen again after Pyaar Kiya Toh Darna Kya. We loved their bromance in particular but we fell for its music tracks despite the movie being a dud at the box office.
Check out Himesh’s music in Teri Chunnariya:
3. Dulhan Hum Le Jaayenge
Himesh was the solo music-director for this movie and we can’t help but listen to all the songs on loop all over again! The songs, including Pyaar Dilo Ka Mela Hai, Chhamiya and Mujhse Shaadi Karogi were as much fun as the movie.
Listen to Pyaar Dilon Ka Mela Hai here:
4. Kahiin Pyaar Na Ho Jaaye
Now, this movie might be a forgettable one. But we sure do remember its songs like Aa Meri Life Bana De and O Priya O Priya. Remember, how innocent Salman’s character looked in O Priya O Priya ? Our personal favourite remains Aa Meri Life Bana De.
Check out Raveena and Salman in Aa Meri Life Bana De here:
5. Jodi No. 1
Ande Ka Fanda, Anda; Ande Ka Fanda! Do we need to say anything else? This song became an iconic song and how! Himesh composed the music with Anand Raj Anand for this one.
Listen to the song that taught us the anda funda right here:
6. Kyaa Dil Ne Kahaa
Another forgettable movie with an unforgettable track, Nikamma Kiya Is Dil Ne. The song was probably the best part about the movie. We’ve all danced to this one as kids.
Check out the song here:
7. Humraaz
Himesh was nominated for Filmfare Best Music Director for this movie. Apart from Akshay Khanna’s villainous antics, Sanam Mere Hamraaz, Bardaasht Nai Kar Sakta and Tune Zindagi Mein Aake Zindagi Badal Di are other memorable things from this movie.
Listen to Humraaz’s title track here:
8. Yeh Hai Jalwa
Again, a Salman-Himesh jodi with a good album. We liked the title track’s music with a chashmish Salman and a pissed off Amisha romancing to the song.
Listen to it here:
9. Chura Liyaa Hai Tumne
Mohabbat Hai Mirchi, Mohabbat Hai Mirchi, Mohabbat Hai Mirchi…O Sanam! And, a certain Rakhi Sawant! That’s all.
Listen to the spicy track here:
10. Tere Naam
The Salman and Himesh duo managed to give us some really catchy numbers. Tere Naam was a movie with a poignant plot along with some passionate lyrics and songs. Tere Naam, Kyun Kisi Ko and Odhni were equally good numbers from the movie.
Check out the title track here:
11. Zameen
Pyaar Tera Dilli Ki Sardi! Anyone? Or it’s just us?
Check the sardi here:
12. Bardaasht
This movie had the number Janaabe Ali which was quite popular in the clubs. And, sometimes, you get to hear it even today.
Brings back childhood memories? Listen to it here:
13. Run
Apart from Vijay Raaz’s Kuawa Biryani scene, this movie is remembered for its songs like Chain Ho, Chain Ho, Dil Mein Jo Baat, Sarki Chunariya Re Zara Zara and Nahi Hona Nahi Hona.
Revitalize your music senses with Sarki Chunariya Re Zara Zara with this track:
14. Aitraaz
So, Priyanka Chopra shocked and awed us with her super-devilish act in the movie and we loved her in the song, Tala Tum, from the film. Aankhen Band Karke, Tala Tum and Gela Gela, made Aitraaz a winner all along apart from the brilliant performances by Akshay and Kareena.
Groove to Gela Gela here:
15. Dil Maange More
Most of us remember this movie for Shahid’s flamboyance. But don’t you dare forget its songs. This movie gave us the retro number Gustakh Dil, Shikwa Bhi Tumse, Aisa Deewana and O Makhna Ve.
Dance to Gustakh Dil again with this number:
16. Maine Pyaar Kyu Kiya?
We saw Sohail and Salman together on-screen in this one, along with Sushmita and Katrina. And, we learnt chilling from Just Chill from this movie. Teri Meri Love Story Ka Angle, Laga Prem Rog and Dil Di Nazar were other noticeable tracks.
Chill with Just Chill here:
17. Iqbal
Himesh composed one song from the movie and it is perhaps one of his best so far. With this number, he proved that he is not only good with dhinchaak numbers but also with soulful melodies.
