Out of all the spooky stories we’ve heard about possessed dolls, rattling closets and creepy clowns, this is a spine-chilling account of a certain phone number which had all its users dying over a span of 10 years.

A Bulgarian Mobitel number was suspended and apparently is believed to be ‘cursed’. It is presently out of network coverage when called. For those wondering, the number was 0888-888-888.

Its first user, Vladimir Grashnov, was CEO of the company Mobitel, which issued the number. He died of cancer in 2001 at the early age of 48. Though he had a clean business record, there are rumours that his cancer was caused by a business rival using radioactive poisoning.

The next user was Bulgarian mafia boss, Konstantin Dimitrov who was shot down by an assassin in 2003 when he was on a trip to the Netherlands to supervise his £500 million drug smuggling empire. Dimitrov was just 31 years old when he was shot while eating out with a model. He had his phone on him during his death.

It is said that other Russian mafia bosses, envious of his drug empire, had a hand in the killing.

The number was then taken by Konstantin Dishliev, a real estate agent who had secretly been running a huge cocaine smuggling operation. He was shot down outside an Indian restaurant in Sofia, Bulgaria’s capital, in 2005.

Drugs worth £130 million were seized by the police on its way into Bulgaria from Colombia, prior to his death.

The number was out of use while the police investigated Dishliev’s drug racket and killing.

The Daily Mail reports that when Mobitel was contacted for a comment, their spokesperson only had this to say –

“We have no comment to make. We won’t discuss individual numbers.”

Too much of a coincidence?
