The over-the-top drama, the suspense and the dramatic pauses have been giving me life since time immemorial. Of all the formats in the genre, I think I’ve fallen most in love with the talent shows. The starry-eyed aspirants, the stoic judges, the display of sheer talent and the moment of truth – gets me in the feels every time. 

Most of all, I love voting, in hopes that my votes might make someone a winner. So with time, when I grow to love a contestant, and they get voted out, it really bums me out.

So, when I heard from a very reliable source (A.K.A equally reality TV crazed friends) of this new talent show on Colors called RISING STAR, I had to check it out to see what it was all about. ‘Cause my little birdies told me that this show lets viewers vote for their favourite contender in real time and the votes actually matter! 

Yep, that’s right! 

No more waiting for a week for the results, no more being overruled by the judges, this time our votes in entirety decide on who should proceed to become the winner, just like in a democracy. 

Here’s a talent show that brings upcoming singing talent from all across the nation to the fore, but with a twist. This time, we the people, get to decide who’s worthy of the title of India’s “RISING STAR” all while the singers perform LIVE. And based on the sheer multitude of talent, like in this video here, making that choice just got so much more mind-boggling for all of us.
