The makers of ‘Finding Nemo‘ are back with a sequel of the animated adventure comedy. The much awaited animation sequel, ‘Finding Dory‘, will feature an all-star voice cast with Ellen DeGeneres and Albert Brooks as the favourite fishes Dory and Marlin.
The film is slated for a June 17 release and deals with the theme of memory loss where Dory never tends to remember anything and yet embarks on a journey to find her parents with Nemo.
The topic of amnesia is not new to films and the theme of memory loss has been explored innovatively and hilariously in both Hollywood and Bollywood movies. Let’s go down memory lane and remember popular amnesic characters on celluloid.
1. Finding Nemo
The character of Dory, the amnesic fish, who suffers from inability to form new memories, volunteers to find Nemo and ultimately remembers the most vital piece of information that helps Marlin reunite with his son. However, Dory’s amnesia leads the duo into some hilariously complicated and dangerous situations. Let’s see what the sequel has in store for us.
2. 50 First Dates
The character was Lucy played by Drew Barrymore, who suffered from anterograde amnesia. The story gets interesting as Henry-Roth (played by Adam Sandler), a commitment-phobic man finds love in Lucy only to realise that she has short-term memory and ends up forgetting him the very next day.
3. Memento
Directed by the award-winning director Christopher Nolan, Memento is a complicated adventure that shows the story of Leonard Shelby (played by Guy Pearce), who suffers from a short-term memory loss resulting from a head injury he sustained while trying to save his wife. The plot twirls around him trying to avenge his wife’s death.
Bollywood blockbuster Ghajini was a remake of Memento.
4. The Bourne Identity
The 2002 American German thriller series revolves around stars Matt Damon as Jason Bourne, an amnesiac man and the plot deals with difficulties regaining his memories after an accident.
5. Eternal sunshine of the spotless mind
The lead couple Joel-Kruczynski played by Jim Carrey and Kate Winslet respectively undergo a procedure to erase each other from their memory and in the process realise that they still love each other.
6. Sadma
Kamal Hassan-Sridevi starrer Sadma is an emotional tragic drama where the protagonist Nehalata (Sridevi) loses her memory and regresses to childhood after suffering a head injury in a car crash. Somprakash’s (played by Hassan) efforts of curing her and bringing her back to her real self forms the rest of the story.
7. The Notebook
The Notebook is one of the most iconic romantic stories based on the book by Nicholas Sparks. An elderly Allie suffers from amnesia in the later parts of the film. What turned out to be the most heart-touching part is that Noah, her husband stood by her during her days of sickness, thereby, sacredly keeping the vows one takes in a marriage.
8. Jab Tak Hai Jaan
The bollywood film starring Sharukh Khan, Katrina Kaif and Anushka Sharma in the lead roles. In the film, the character Samar, played by Sharukh is diagnosed with amnesia after he meets with an accident.
9. The Hangover series
This out and out comedy film traces the adventurous journey of a group of friends who lose their memory after a bad “hangover”.
10.Men In Black
The use of a device called “neuralyser” is common in the x-men series. The tube like structure gives a bright flash and erases memories of the past hours, days, weeks, months or even years.
11. X men Film Series
In the movie series, X-Men, Logan, played by Hugh Jackman, is hit on the head, hence losing his memory.
12. The Vow
The character of Piage Collins, played by Rachel McAdams, loses her memory after meeting with an accident, and thus forgetting her husband, Leo, played by Channing Tatum.
