Long before Civil War pitched the two against each other, Captain America and Iron Man have been frenemies first and crime-fighting partners laters.
But from the time the first Avengers brought IronMan and Captain America together, Robert Downey Jr. and Chris Evans have been sharing enviable hugs, emotional talks, and fun banter as BFFs.
In fact, Robert Downey Jr. was the one who convinced Chris Evans for Captain America, and as the saying goes, there was no turning back after that.
Here’s all the times Robert Downey Jr. and Chris Evans proved that when it comes to mushy and fun-filled romances, nothing and no one beats their bromance:
1. The two know that when it comes to birthdays and promotions, only the ‘very special’ greetings count.
Happy birthday to the legendary @RobertDowneyJr. Mentor. Life-saver. Friend. Hope your birthday is like a giant kiss on the lips! pic.twitter.com/GK60sd8QLK
— Chris Evans (@ChrisEvans) April 4, 2017
Many thanks for the kind returns. You’re my favorite Chris…
— Robert Downey Jr (@RobertDowneyJr) April 5, 2017
Happy birthday to the man, the myth, the incomparable, the indomitable, @RobertDowneyJr
— Chris Evans (@ChrisEvans) April 4, 2019
You’re a true original. Thank you for carrying us these last 10 years!!!! 💙
2. Obviously, between friends as close as these two, there is only one way to solve a ‘heated discussion’ – Rock, Paper, Scissors.
3. When it comes to teasing each other, they involve everyone – because good teasing takes time, efforts, and in their case, over 140 characters.
hey @MarkRuffalo looks like Cap needs a little tutoring from the science bros.

I’m guessing the arc reactor doesn’t need some sort of annoying upgrade or download or new OS every 3 months. HELP ME! https://t.co/FjIbBBG3va

.@VancityReynolds Et tu, D-pool? Gimme a shout when Rogers boots you out for “cussing”!
— Robert Downey Jr (@RobertDowneyJr) February 20, 2016
@RobertDowneyJr @VancityReynolds Bullsh*t!! The cussing was my favorite part! (just don’t tell my alter ego….or Kevin Feige….or my mom)

I’m assuming you mean the parachute. However you DID design that costume, so I think they cancel each other out. https://t.co/Qya7trypBl

4. But if you thought it was all teasing and plays, you haven’t heard them gush – there really is no other way to describe it – about each other.
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Robert Downey Jr. praised Evans’ for the way he has grown, and actually credited him for truly keeping the ‘team together’.
I’ve been in hundreds of scenes with this guy. Nobody laughs more than him. Sometimes he makes me self-conscious, like, ‘Should I be more fun?’ There’s a little bit of, like, just trying to shake out the anxiety. And I’ve also seen him, over the last 10 years, go from being someone who had laughably real social anxiety to someone who has grown more and more comfortable in their own skin. People love to say — and I’ll eat it up — that I’m kind of the progenitor of this whole universe. But if you want to talk about it in terms of team building, and you want to talk about it as the most successful creative relay race in the history of cinema, he was the critical leg.
In 2017, during a promotional tour for his other movie Gifted, Chris Evans talked about how Robert Downey Jr. is the ‘calming’ presence in his life and how he is the perfect example of what a star should be like.
He is the epitome of what a movie star is. I feel like he walks in a room and he just glows. He owns the oxygen… I feel so much safer when he’s around. It’s like when you’re a kid- if Dad’s with you nothing bad can happen. Not to make Downey seem like my father, but there’s something about him that makes you feel very protected. He’s really good at helping me recalibrate and get back down to earth. He’s a very soothing source for me. There’s genuine care. He’s clearly been through a lot in his life, so nothing feels saccharine or unctuous.
5. This explains why the two see themselves in another iconic bromance duo. It just helps that the latter belongs to the Disney universe.
When Chris Evans announced the end of his Marvel contract, Robert Downey Jr. had the best response ever.

Also, that wasn’t the only Disney reference the two saw themselves in.

6. And even when it comes to breaking rules, both are in it together.
The Russo brothers had initiated a ban on Avengers: Endgame, that was lifted a week after the movie released. And though all actors were asked not to take videos on set (to avoid unintentional spoilers), guess which two stars broke the rules?
Video ban lifted! I guess I’m not the only one who broke the rules on this day of filming.

Yes, the other Avengers couldn’t resist either – but we have a feeling these two led the rule-breaking.
I remember being blown away in this moment on the avengers set. Nobody was allowed to film anything on their phones. I said screw it. No rule was going to stop me from seizing this once… https://t.co/3zgg0JAXUi

7. Oh, and the two make sure the world knows they’re BFFs. Because ain’t no PDA like a bromance PDA.
Don’t tease me, @ChrisEvans. pic.twitter.com/ewYz6vb0aH

BFFs let you share their umbrellas, right @ChrisEvans ? pic.twitter.com/1nJoJrFkZr

8. But in case one of them messes up, the other forgives and forgets – not before publically shaming of course.
9. But dinner dates and goofy photos can help overcome any and all problems. Especially when you’re as good friends as these two.

10. And when all is said and done, no friendship can exist without quirky nicknames, stolen goodies, memes and public nominations.
It’s common knowledge that Robert Downey Jr. has a special nickname for Chris Evans – Dorito. And yes, he has used it across interviews and social media channels.
Also, from donuts to shields, gotta steal them all!

I am not #TeamCap or #TeamStark, I am Team Stony forever! (Someone cast them in a romantic tale, please, possibly by Disney?)
