Kiran Rao, film director and wife of superstar Aamir Khan, has lodged a complaint with Cyber Crime police station at Mumbai’s Bandra Kurla Complex against an unidentified person, who has allegedly created her fake Facebook account and is impersonating her on social media.
Rao, 42, registered the complaint yesterday and said that the impersonator has uploaded her picture on Facebook and is also chatting with her friends and family members, police said.
A case has been registered in this connection and probe initiated, they said, refusing to divulge further details.
As per a Times of India report, Rao learnt about the account through her friends who told her about a series of chats that Rao didn’t know about.
Indian Police Service officer-turned-lawyer Y P Singh told TOI, “The impersonator can be easily identified by the police from his IP address and apprehended. However, if the impersonator does mischief from outside India, it is nearly impossible to catch him and put him to trial under the provisions of the Information Technology Act or for cheating… However the actor can, in addition, file a case of civil damages against the impersonator.”
