Each and every time I have seen a picture of Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet together, I have been transported back to the memories of watching them on screen for the first time ever.
Titanic was such an iconic, marking-a-milestone movie. Apart from the fact that it was played every single New Year’s Eve for like 5 years, it is also a movie that the 90s kids remember fondly because, well, many of us came of age prematurely after watching it. Don’t even ask the number of times we have struck the open arms pose, or said to our beloved “You jump, I jump”. And even Celine Dion probably does not remember the lyrics to My Heart Will Go On like we do.
But Titanic was also the movie where we saw these two brilliant artists showcasing their sheer talent, so much so that we all hoped to see a lot more of them on-screen. But even if that didn’t happen, I think it makes us happier when we see them friend-shipping in real life.
It reminds us of our school friends, of childhood, of people who have stuck by us through thick and thin, laughed with us, cried with us, been there for us at all times, and also grown up with us.
That is 20 years of a pious bond.
I mean look at them, back in 1998.
And they are not the ones to hide their affection for each other. Leonardo told Oprah Winfrey, “In a lot of ways, Kate and I have really grown up in this industry together; we’ve been a support mechanism for each other for such a long period of time”
Let’s all find a bestie who looks at us the way Kate looks at Leo!
10 years after Titanic, the dua got back together for the movie Revolutionary Road. The movie was directed by Kate’s then-husband Sam Mendes. She went on to say that her friendship with Leo, “Predates my relationship with Sam, and Sam always loved that,” which made working with both the men in her life even easier.
When Kate won the Golden Globe Award for her role in the Revolutionary Road, she had a heartfelt message for Leo, who she said she has loved for 13 years.
And when Leo (finally!) won the Oscar for The Revenant, Kate got all teary eyed.
Look at them laugh through their lives together, giving us serious friendship goals.
And looks like they are still pretty tight. Here, they are hanging out at Leo’s villa in Saint-Tropez, France in July.
I guess in life we all need a friend like that, and if we find them, you never let go. Geddit?
