An entertaining line up of Bollywood movies awaits us in the upcoming months. Dangal being the most talked about film of the year finally releases tomorrow and we’re extremely excited.
Based on the real life story of the Phogat sisters and their coach-cum-father Mahavir Singh Phogat (played by Aamir), this movie revolves around all the hard work behind the success of the girls and showcases the massive effort put in by their father.
It’s also the story of a father’s unfulfilled dream of winning a gold for the country, which his daughters would turn into reality. He built his own army by training his daughters, Geeta and Babita and his niece Vinesh, who have made the nation proud on global sports platforms.
Fatima Sana Shaikh, plays Aamir’s eldest daughter, Geeta, in the film.
Geeta Phogat is the first Indian woman wrestler to have won a gold in the Commonwealth Games, 55kg freestyle wrestling category. She is also the first Indian female wrestler to have qualified for the Olympics.
While much is known about Geeta, here’s a little something about her reel-life counterpart, Fatima Sana Shaikh.
Fatima hails from the city of dreams, Mumbai. After completing her education from St. Xaviers School, she graduated from Mithibai College, Mumbai. The actress stepped into the world of cinema at a very young age.
Remember Kamal Hassan’s daughter, Bharti, from Chachi 420? Yes, that was Fatima’s debut project, back in 1997.
Fatima was then seen in Bade Dilwala, starring Suniel Shetty in 1998, after which she appeared in SRK’s One 2 Ka 4. The actress was last seen in a romantic drama called Akaash Vani (2013).
Apart from her interest in acting, Fatima is also a brilliant dancer.
Don’t believe us? Look at her sassy moves in this video with her co-actor Sanya Malhotra, who plays her younger sister in the film.
Even though Fatima is used to being in front of the camera, her interest lies behind it.
She is a photographer and a pretty good one, to be honest. She takes to Instagram to share her work.
Aamir Khan’s dedication towards his work impressed Fatima so much, she and her co-actor Sanya expressed the desire of being able to work with Mr. Perfectionist even after Dangal’s wrap up. As a result of this, Mr. Khan gave the girls a one-in-a-lifetime opportunity to intern under him for a year.
Aamir was so excited by the idea of having interns that he has now made it a yearly practice of appointing two lucky youngsters who’s want to work with him.
Fatima will be exposed to the actor’s schedule and will work in direct contact with him. If next year you get to be an intern in Aamir’s team, you have Fatima to thank, for beginning the practice.
