There are certain childhood memories that are universally shared. One of them being Archie, the most popular comic series, we all grew up reading.
I remember those trips to the next-door store, when I was little. I’d get my hands on a new copy and hop right back home, eager to start flipping the pages.
Well, those days of innocence and harmless fun are gone. Now, we have a brand new take on the Archie world and those beloved characters are brought to us, in a whole new style, by the television broadcasting company, The CW, in an upcoming TV show, Riverdale.
The network recently launched the exclusive teaser of the mid-season drama, shared by Entertainment Weekly.
“It’s definitely Archie, but a little darker, a little more complex and a little weirder than you might remember from the digest you bought at the supermarket,” executive producer Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa told EW at San Diego Comic Con earlier this year. “We’re saying it’s a little bit like Archie meets Twin Peaks.”
Even though the plot details are not revealed in the video, we do get a good look at the overall vibe of the new series, premiering on January 26, 2017.
It is sexy, mysterious and a little eerie. Definitely a complete shift from the original classic!
Oh, and the new Archie is a far cry from the freckled boy we once knew. Now, he is a smokin’ hot (those abs) dude going through the drama of high school with his friends.
There’s a murder, a crime scene with bloody hands, cops, flashing sirens and a dead body in the promo. Not the kind of stuff you’d expect to see but it works just fine in building up the hype for this anticipated adaptation.
Plus, we’ve got that famous love triangle with glorious human versions of Veronica and Betty this time.
This is going to be one steamy drama and we’re waiting with bated breath.
