When it comes to TV shows, House of Cards has set incredibly high standards. From its unbelievable plot twists to its powerful dialogues, House of Cards is just a jaw-droppingly brilliant series. But even a show as awesome as this has certain moments that stand out from the rest. Here are 10 that blew us away.
SPOILERS AHEAD: Season 3 is coming on Indian TV, and man is it going to be one awesome ride. So you better make sure that you’ve caught up before you hop on!
1. When Frank kills the dog.
Season 1 – Episode 1
In the very first episode of the show, Frank Underwood runs outside after hearing a dog get hit by a car. As he comforts the dying pet, Frank looks into the camera and says: “Moments like this require someone who will act, who will do the unpleasant thing, the necessary thing,” before he suffocates the dog. Stone cold.
2. When Frank is passed up for Secretary of State.
Season 1 – Episode 1
This is the moment that set everything in motion. Outwardly, Frank seems fine with promises being taken back. But inside, you know he’s just seething with rage.
3. The death of Zoe Barnes.
Season 2 – Episode 1
Without a doubt, this was the show’s most shocking twist till date. If anyone felt certain characters were untouchable, this scene definitely blew all their preconceptions to smithereens.
4. When Freddy was sacrificed.
Season 2 – Episode 9
This one was particularly shocking because Freddy was easily one of the most likable characters in the show. But as we’ve come to realise, nothing gets in the way of Frank Underwood and his ambition.
5. When Jackie gets a tattoo.
Season 2 – Episode 10
Someone getting a tattoo? Eh. That someone turning out to be the majority whip who gets tattoos done because she’s a masochist who enjoys feeling pain? Mind blown. Makes you wonder why they didn’t delve more into this aspect of Jackie.
6. Peter Russo’s death.
Season 1 – Episode 11
This had been coming for a while, but that didn’t make it any less heart-wrenching. Tricking Russo into sleeping with a prostitute and getting him drunk during a phase of sobriety wasn’t enough for Frank. Peter Russo just had to go.
7. Claire reveals she was raped.
Season 2 – Episode 2
It was clear that something was not quite right when Claire met General McGinnis for the first time in the show. When Claire reveals she was raped by the General, you just knew the Underwoods were going to do something about it.
8. The Meechsome.
Season 2 – Episode 11
Meechum and the Underwoods. What can be said about this scene that hasn’t been said before? Just that it’s a moment that’s better watched than explained.
9. When Rachel kills Doug with a rock.
Season 2 – Episode 13
I don’t know about you, but when I saw Rachel run into the woods, I feared the worst. Turns out, I needn’t have bothered. Doug meets a messy end, but it isn’t clear if it’s really lights out for him.
10. When Frank becomes President.
Season 2 – Episode 13
It wasn’t just about him becoming President, it was how he did it. Convincing the incumbent President to resign amidst controversy (caused by Frank, of course) and then taking his place? I can’t wait to see what plans President Underwood has in store.
And all these moments are just from the first two seasons. Zee Cafe is airing back-to-back episodes of Season 3 of House of Cards on the 4th and 5th of April, starting 5 p.m.
Let the epicness continue!
