2016 couldn’t have started in a worse way – at least for fans of old school rock/pop fans. The talented David Bowie is no more. After a brave 18-month battle with cancer, the illustrious musician passed away a few hours ago. He had just turned 69 on January 8th.

His was a life well-lived, and as fans, we do what we can to celebrate that. So here’s a list of 10 essential Bowie songs that you should listen to, to help you get you through this day.

10. Modern Love (1983)

1. Space Oddity (1969)

You have to remember that this is one artist whose career lasted from the late 60s to 2015. A list with just 10 songs doesn’t really do justice to the magnanimity of Bowie. In fact, while I’m writing this, I’m already thinking of songs like Moonage Daydream and Young Americans and cursing myself for not being able to ‘fit them in’ on this list. It’s not just that lists are subjective, but I’m still trying to come to terms with the fact that David Bowie is no more.

Rest in peace, you crazy genius.
