If reports are to be believed, the apocalypse just got a whole lot closer. According to Australia’s Breakthrough National Centre for Climate Restoration (BNCCR), 90% of humankind will perish by the year 2050 due to climate change.
That means in 31 years, most of us will likely be dead.
The BNCCR report claims that though the findings are there for all to see, bodies like the UN’s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) are not projecting a realistic image of what the future holds.
The report states,
We must never forget that we are in a unique situation with no precise historic analogue. The level of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere is now greater, and the Earth warmer than what human beings have ever experienced. And there are almost eight billion of us now living on this planet.
The Paris Agreement aims to cap global temperature rise at 3-5°C. However, the BNCCR claims that a 3°C rise would result in most of Bangladesh and Florida drowning, while coastal cities like Shanghai, Lagos, Mumbai would be swamped, thus creating large flows of climate refugees.
According to them, if nothing is done, then by 2050, 1 billion people residing in West Africa and the Middle East will have to relocate because of unlivable climate conditions. Quite a dire warning.
