Food search-and-delivery giant Zomato recently started a unique, and perhaps brilliant advertising initiative. Considering the amount of time a lot of Indians spend watching porn (which is a lot by the way), the website has decided to start advertising on sites such as Xvideos.com and the like.
Quartz reported that Zomato started this practise also because advertising on porn sites is way cheaper than on sites such as Facebook and Twitter.
India is ranked 4th worldwide in terms of traffic to some of the most famous porn sites, so the move makes quite a lot of sense. According to data compiled by Zomato, ” The highest number of clicks in Delhi came from around the Hauz Khas area. We can’t say for sure why that happened, but IIT-Delhi is in the area,” the post said.
The means might seem unusual, but the payoff is totally real. An American takeout-ordering app called Eat24 was one of the first to go down the x-rated advertising route, and it resulted in their ads getting 200% more exposure.
Pramod Rao, senior vice-president of growth at Zomato, said, “Look, people watch porn, and people get hungry, so stop judging me”.
Hey, no judgement here Mr. Rao.
