Move over Rebecca Black, a Hungarian musician named Rezso Seress has been making music that makes you want to kill yourself since the early 1900s. According to urban legend, his song ‘Vége a világnak’ (The world is ending), released in 1933, is also known as the ‘Hungarian Suicide Song’, and with good reason. The 1st World War hangover was still fresh in everyone’s ravaged minds around this time, and a cloud of impenetrable depression and heavy-heartedness resulted in the composition of this track. Poet László Jávor wrote his own lyrics to this song a few years later, and talked about a man committing suicide to reunite with his dead lover.
