The trailer for the Dick Cheney biopic Vice dropped yesterday, and people had only one thing on their minds – How the heckin’ heck does Christian Bale do it?
Christian Bale is a thespian chameleon. The man is capable of manipulating his body to fit whatever a role demands of him. Here are some of his most unbelievable transformations .
1. American Psycho (2000)
Patrick Bateman is obsessed with physical of social perfection, among other things. This meant he was built like a Greek god, sculpted and totally not a murderous crazy person.
2. The Machinist (2004)
Still considered one of the most extreme transformations by any actor, Bale lost almost 30 kilos for his role as an insomniac. Apparently he didn’t even visit a nutritionist, and instead went on a diet of cigarettes and whiskey.
3. Batman Begins (2005)
Just 6 months after his role in The Machinist, Bale gained over 50 kilos for Batman Begins. Now obviously, this kind of extreme weight fluctuation is very bad for your body, but Bale seems to be blessed. Someone got swole!
4. Rescue Dawn (2006)
Just a year later, he put on 25 kilos to playing prisoner of war Dieter Dengler in Rescue Dawn. His role in this film was also critically lauded.
5. The Fighter (2010)
Bale plays a crack smoking ex-boxer in this film, which meant losing around 13 kilos. By this point he was older, and went about the weight loss in a smarter way, consulting doctors and adhering to a healthy diet.
6. American Hustle (2013)
Playing a fat and balding con-man meant putting on 20 kilos, which would seem to not be much of an issue for this human silly putty. While the results were stunning, Bale suffered a herniated a disk in his back and lost 3 inches in height due to the weight gain.
7. Vice (2018)
For the upcoming Dick Cheney biopic Vice, Christian Bale put on almost 20 kilos, shaved his head and bleached his eyebrows.
