Actor Anupam Kher has been roped in for the film adaptation of Sanjaya Baru’s controversial book The Accidental Prime Minister: The Making and Unmaking of Manmohan Singh.
The 62-year-old actor has confirmed to Economic Times that he will be portraying the role of the former Prime Minister, Manmohan Singh in the film which will be directed by debutant filmmaker, Vijay Ratnakar Gutte.
“Acting the role of anyone in contemporary history is extremely challenging, as comparisons are bound to be instant and inevitable. But as I have always revelled in challenges, right from my first film Saaransh, I look forward to the experience of portraying PM Manmohan Singh,” Kher told the Economic Times.
Author Sanjaya Baru was the former media advisor of Manmohan Singh back then and the book, which was released ahead of the 2014 general elections, gives a detailed account of the Indian politics as well as the controversies related to prominent Congress leaders.
Producer Sunil Bohra has also been quoted in the report as saying that the research on the film is already over and the remaining cast is yet to be decided.
The report further suggests that the screenplay of the film has been written by National award-winning director, Hansal Mehta.
The first look of the film, which is slated to hit the silver screens in December next year, is out.
