Our name is that one important aspect of our identity that we don’t get to choose. You may love or hate your name but you can’t deny that there’s always a story behind how your parents picked that perfect (or not so much) name for you.
Recently, a Twitter user shared how his parents came up with his name.
My name is Aashish because in 1985 adding an extra A was a hipster move for my parents. https://t.co/Dbdbb9SBGq

It was after author and poet Harnidh Kaur replied to his tweet, when the Indian Twitter started pouring with some amazingly interesting stories behind people’s names.
my name is harnidh because my dad didn’t want me to be the butt of ‘haha all punjabi names end with neet/preet/meet/jeet’ jokes. https://t.co/LGoBrtLna4

Soon people were recounting the tales of what inspired their name.
Well…. They named me Ashish. reason: One family friend had reception the day i was born. In hindi… Reception translates to aashirwaad smaroh. You get the gist right…? Thank god it was not there mahila sangeet that day.

Some of them were insanely hilarious!
My name is Harmik because my parents said Harmeet to a half deaf priest at the Gurudwara and he mispronounced it..also my parents didn’t care enough to correct ‘him’ or ‘my name’ later

My name is Narien bcoz in Sanskrit Naren or Narin has same meaning. My dad confused which one to use and he mixed up both and named me Narien.

My name is Madhuri because my parents thought at least something related to me can remain sweet.

While others had a Bollywood twist to it.
My name is Isha because mom LOVED Hema Malini and she had named her daughter Esha. Thank god her daughters weren’t called Rekha, Jaya or Sushma.

My name is Arjun coz apparently my younger brother name is Karan and my family is obsessed with Bollywood!!

A mandatory Rahul Gandhi joke also slipped in.
My name is Rahul Gandhi and I don’t know wtf everyone is whining about.

And some parents clearly didn’t put in too much effort while naming their kids.
My name is Amit because , along with 5 million other parents in the mid-70s, my parents thought they were the only ones naming their child so.
