After opening the 67th, 68th and 69th Golden Globe awards, Ricky Gervais returned to host the 73rd annual Golden Globe awards and wasted no time before making a slew of controversial but hilarious remarks.

He opened the monologue by describing the audience as “disgusting pill-popping sexual deviant scum.”

“I wanna do this monologue and then go into hiding, OK? Not even Sean Penn will find me. Snitch.”

“Hello, and welcome to the 73rd Annual Golden Globe Awards live from the Beverly Hilton Hotel, with all these rich, beautiful celebrities having the time of their lives, let’s hope no one spoils that, yeah?”

Taking turns to make fun of Caitlyn Jenner’s car accident, Sean Penn’s interview with El Chapo, NBC ‘because they are the only network with zero nominations’, Hollywood Foreign Press on warning him against saying anything offensive, JLaw on making news for demanding wage equality, Matt Damon for Martian, all female remakes for being ‘the big thing’, he ended it with a hilarious advice for winners.

“Listen, if you do win tonight remember that no one cares about that award as much as you do, OK? Don’t get emotional, it’s embarrassing.”
