If You Thought OCD Was Cute Or Funny, This Comic Strip Will Open Your Eyes

In the range of mental disorders an Obsessive Compulsive Disorder is one that is loosely thrown around and we’re all guilty as charged. We trivialise the issue without much regard for the crippling handicap that people have to deal with on a daily basis. In the cartoon below by Christine Deneweth, who has personally struggled with the condition she removes the cutesy fluff around the issue and gets right down to the ugly marrow.

The story was first published in Everyday Feminism .

And as the editors at Everyday Feminism rightly point out, “‘I’m so OCD about this!” It’s become far too common for people to use OCD as a “quirky” adjective. And if you don’t have OCD, you probably don’t realize why that’s a huge problem. This comic breaks down what OCD really is, what it isn’t, and why it’s so harmful when you trivialize this serious disorder. We can learn a lot from this message on being more thoughtful about our everyday language.
