Client Feedback On Famous Novels Targets Writers Who’re Stuck Taking Orders From Brands

Raj Das

Okay, this post might demoralize many of my colleagues in the advertising and publishing business (for obvious reasons), but it’s too good to not share. The Winston Fletcher Fiction Prize for creative writing is an annual thing, and it’s targeted towards writers in the advertising (or any other mass media) industry.

Even though the entries for the 2015 competition has ended, the campaign targeted at the writers is gaining some traction on social media. Because it’s so brilliant.

Using classics like The Great Gatsby, Midnight’s Children and Catch-22, books written by F. Scott Fitzgerald, Salman Rushdie and Joseph Heller, writers who started out with advertising, the campaign reinforces it’s message – Write for yourself. Not for a client. It uses images of the books along with how typical clients’ react to writers’ work.
