Reliance Jio Claims It Has Set A World Record By Crossing 16 Million Subscribers In First Month

Reliance’s latest venture Reliance Jio Infocomm on Sunday said it created a world record by crossing 16 million customers within a month of it launching its operations on September 5.

In an official statement given by the company it said, ” achieved this growth faster than any other telecom operator or startup in the world, including the likes of Facebook, Whatsapp, and Skype”.

Mukesh Ambani Chairman, Reliance Industries Limited, said,“We are delighted and humbled by the overwhelming response across India to the Jio Welcome Offer. Jio is built to empower every Indian with the power of data. We are delighted that people have recognized this and are utilizing our services to the fullest. We are customer-obsessed and committed to improve every day to exceed expectations of our customers.”

The Jio introduced the Aadhaar-based paper-less Jio SIM activation across 3,100 cities and towns that enable a customer to complete the SIM activation process in minutes. 

After Reliance Jio offered free voice and data till end of this year as a part of its “welcome offer”, its rivals such as Bharti Airtel, Vodafone India and Idea Cellular came with their own enticing offers by slashing effective data rates to counter competition.  

Currently, the market leader is Airtel that has over 257 million users, followed by Vodafone with 200 million and Idea with 177 million.
