Facebook Is Clamping Down On Users Who Post ‘Vast Amounts’ Of Clickbait Stories

Facebook is clamping down on users who post ‘vast amounts’ of rubbishy clickbait stories every day, by reducing the number of times their posts appear on a friend’s timeline.

The update will only target “rubbishy links – i.e. to spammy blogs – not pictures of people’s breakfasts or little maps showing how far they have jogged,” reports Metro.co.uk

Facebook announced the update in a post last month saying, ‘We are making an update to help reduce low quality links in News Feed.

Facebook News Feed’s Vice President Adam Mosseri wrote, “Our research shows that there is a tiny group of people on Facebook who routinely share vast amounts of public posts per day, effectively spamming people’s feeds.”

He also said that their research shows that the links they share tend to include low quality content.

“As a result, we want to reduce the influence of these spammers and deprioritize the links they share more frequently than regular sharers. Of course, this is only one signal among many others that may affect the ranking prioritization of this type of post,” he added.
