Back in May, China unveiled its ambitious proposal for a futuristic bus which it hoped will be the answer to its crazy traffic jams. This elevated bus promised to be able to glide over cars on the road, making it unaffected by traffic jams and freeing space on the road.

Finally, the Transit elevated bus, TEB had its first road test on Tuesday and was held in Qinhuangdao City to evaluate the braking system, drag and power consumption of the vehicle.

A functioning model of the Transit Elevated Bus (TEB) earlier was unveiled at the 19th China Beijing International High-Tech Expo on May 22, where it quickly became popular and was much talked about.

Watch how this innovative bus fared on its first road test:

The whole vehicle, designed to maximize the use of road space, is around 22 meters long and 8 meters wide, which makes it able to blanket multiple lanes of traffic. The environmentally-friendly bus is powered by electricity and solar energy generated by panels in its roof, reported China Xinhua News.

One bus can carry up to 300 passengers, but developers plan to use it as a Metro system of four adjoining cars at a time or more. Fitting up to 1,200 passengers at a time, the futuristic machine can solve both the problems caused by overpopulation and traffic jams.
